EDTA-2Na is a white crystal powder. It contains two crystal waters. When dried, it easily loses crystal water. It is easily soluble in water, the pH value of 5% water solution is 4.0-6.0 (25ºC). It is hardly soluble in organic solvents like alcohol or ethyl ethe r.
Ethylene diaminetetraacetic acid disodium salt dihydrate is used as a chelator of divalent cations. It inhibits enzymes such as metallo protease that require divalent cations for activity. It is also used in chelation therapy. It acts as a sequestering agent in shampoos, cleaners and other personal care products and serves as an anticoagulant for blood samples.
